Lancashire Police had a long tradition of using the Ford Cortina in both Mk2 and Mk3 guise so it was no surprise that they quickly adopted the Mk4 soon after it was launched in 1976. For reasons of economy, the smaller engined less sporting models were employed as Divisional Area Cars.
However, their Urban Traffic Patrol Cars were all based on the faster and better handling 2.0S model albeit supplied without some of the fittings seen on the civilian 2.0S such as alloy wheels and luxurious cloth seats.
The 2.0S, a quick and capacious car with good handling, was very successful in this role.
