Chassis number GG11896 was, numerically, the last of the 1,886,647 Capris manufactured.
It came off the line in Cologne on the 19th December 1986 and was one of 1038, UK market only, £11,999 limited edition Capri 280 run out models.
All featured Brooklands-Green paint, Recaro leather seats, a limited‑slip‑differential and 15inch alloys shod with Pirelli P7s.
Mindful of publicity, Ford arranged for ‘the last’ Capri to come off the line in early afternoon thereby ensuring it appeared on that night’s TV news meaning several cars with earlier chassis numbers were finished later.
Journalist Mike McCarthy spent the day helping to build it prior to running GG11896 as an Autocar long-term test car
