The Escort Mexico nameplate survived into the MkII range but the car lost the 1600 crossflow OH V engine that had been so much a part of the victory in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally and the subsequent ‘Mexico’ tribute road car’s character.
Instead, the MkII used a smaller 1600cc version of the RS 2000s Pinto engine but with a chin spoiler below the standard front panel and a rubber boot spoiler.
RS four-spoke alloys with dove-grey painted spokes, sport-pack instruments and Mexico side decals completed the package of this appealing budget performance car.
