The MkII Granada was a thorough evolution of the MkI and shared its platform and suspension systems, although it was extensively reworked in detail to improve the car’s ride and noise suppression.
The significantly more aerodynamic body was all new, as were the fuel injected 2.3 and 2.8-litre V6 ‘Cologne’ engines, although the 4-cylinder 2-litre ‘Pinto’ unit was carried over from the MkI.
The free revving German units were more economical and smoother, as well as being 22kgs lighter than the previous ‘Essex’ engine and accounted for almost half the MkII s weight saving of 50kgs – which is impressive when you consider it was 6cm longer.
